When it comes to shoe storage, is there ever really enough in your home?! If you are like me, then you know a family will have shoes at every single door to the home and usually a large stash of them in their bedroom so the key to keeping this mess hidden is really storage.

Choosing the right storage solutions comes down to a few key points:

  1. Where will I be keeping the shoes?
  2. Does the storage need to look like storage or can this be jazzed up to conceal what it actually is?
  3. What kind of shoes need to be stored here?
  4. How much space do I have available for the storage solution?

Once you have an idea of these key points, you can get to work. Consider these ideas and see how you can implement them.

Front Entry

Front entrance storage is a big key for me. We access our front door from the paddocks (the joys of living on a farm that our front entrance has become our mudroom) so storage here is really important. Our front door keeps the gumboots and boots stored, so it was hugely important to ensure any storage solutions here would be tall enough to house boots for adults. But being the main entrance it also needed to be a place that still gave our guests a little wow factor as they walked inside. Consider this when choosing what you need. Look for something special as a solution like the Solid Oak Shoe Cabinet for it’s clean lines and beautiful style. This cabinet would hide shoes perfectly while allowing you the space on top to style up with a mirror and decor pieces to create a homely feel as a front entrance, perfect for the Hamptons Style home or even the farmhouse vibes. Make it a little more boho chic by layering different timbers together with a heavy raw mirror on top and layering with some funky decor pieces.

Another great way to create an entrance is by giving guests somewhere to sit while they take their shoes off. Give them somewhere to sit like a bench seat while allowing shoes to be hidden below it. The Sheesham Wood Cabinet would be ideal for this. It can act as another key design piece in the entrance if you have space for it. Add a rug underneath this so it softens the space and makes it feel even more inviting. The Solid Oak and MDF Shoe Rack would also be great as a bench seat and you can easily hide the shoes by adding baskets to the shelving. It will create another layer of interest to the space and can be easily updated as your style changes by switching out the baskets.

In our house, we have little children who spend their days out the back riding bikes. So we have shoe storage outside for them that is low enough for them to open themselves but also large enough that it can house their shoes, gumboots and bike helmets so there is even less clutter again on display. The Solid Walnut Wood Shoe Storage is perfect for the boho vibes that are so on trend right now to have as a feature in the alfresco and will add another layer of style to a bland outdoor space. Shoe storage doesn’t have to be boring, have some fun with it. Don’t forget that anything can be painted, so if you find a storage solution with good bones and strong lines but doesn’t fit the aesthetics of your home, paint it!

Bedroom

Shoe storage for a bedroom is endless again. The wardrobe is often the most used place for shoes so find yourself some low shelves like the Solid Walnut Shoe Rack and line these along the floor of the wardrobe below your hanging space. Make use of the dead space in here and by adding the second tier if you have the space, you will again maximise the dead space to ensure you can fit as many shoes in as possible allowing you to have free space somewhere else in your wardrobe.

Dead spaces in the corner of your bedroom can even be dressed up with Shoe Cabinets which are available in a variety of finishes and colours. Create an extra space in an unused pocket of your room. Add some art above it, layer with some cute pictures and decor and you’ll have a space that not only looks pretty, but gives you a totally usable space.

Laundry

The Laundry is also another handy place to keep shoes if you have the space for it. Tall shoe storage here is handy for those shoes you often switch out for different seasons. The 180cm Shoe Cabinet range would be ideal here and having so many choices in colours and finishes will allow you to find something that will work in with your existing laundry cabinetry.

Find something that meets the answers to the questions above and you’ll soon see just how important clever storage really is for your home.
